Kansas lawmakers approved legislation that would alter sales tax revenue bonds in an effort to lure the Kansas City Chiefs and/or Royals across state lines.
The legislation, which must be approved by Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, would establish a Major Professional Sports Franchise STAR Bond District. The special tax district is designed for professional sports teams that are willing to invest $1 billion or more to develop a stadium with a capacity of at least 30,000 people.
Bonds would be paid off using incremental sales tax revenue from the development, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.
