The state of Kansas is lagging behind neighboring states and the nation in several economic categories, according to a report by Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback’s Council of Economic Advisors.
Kansas is being outperformed in the region in categories that examined growth in population, gross domestic product, personal income, private-industry wage level and private business establishment, according to the Lawrence Journal-World.
However, the state does have a lower unemployment rate, at 4.9 percent, than the average for its neighbors, and it is the pacesetter in the region in the growth of building permits, according to the report.
The Kansas Economic Progress Council, which has opposed Brownback’s cuts in recent years in state income tax rates, says the report is evidence that the cuts aren’t working as promised.
