Kansas governor may leave for job in Italy

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is considering leaving to become the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations agencies for food and agriculture in Rome, a person familiar with the matter told Kansas Public Radio.

The governor's office did not confirm or deny whether Brownback is taking the job in Italy.

If Brownback does leave, Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer would take his place. Kansas currently is facing a budget deficit and inadequate school funding, according to Kansas Public Radio.
