Kansas City's Westport experiencing a resurgence

A dozen Kansas City-area owned restaurants and bars have opened in the last few months in the Westport district – the most new tenants in such a short span in nearly two decades, according to the Kansas City Star.

Six years ago, the Power & Light District opened in downtown, which initially drew visitors away from midtown Westport, which first prospered in the mid-1800s.

The new interest in Westport is largely attributed to an increased focus on safety and more area office and residential tenants. Tenants such as the James Beard award-winning Bluestem – which was recently renovated and reopened in June – are also credited with helping to attract new restaurants and bars hoping to see the area become a destination for the “foodie” generation.
