Kansas City Southern considers alternate buyout bid

Kansas City Southern has started talks with Canadian National Railway Co. after the company offered $33.7 billion for the company.

The offer comes after Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. entered a $29 billion purchase agreement with KC Southern.

The agreement with Canadian Pacific forbid KC Southern from seeking out another suitor. However, it does not prohibit exploration talks that could lead to a "superior proposal."
