While touring the new Downtown T-REx co-working space in St. Louis’ Lammert Building, Secretary of State Jason Kander called startups the future of Missouri economic development.
According to the St. Louis Business Journal, Kander visited the three floors T-REx occupies, chatted with working entrepreneurs and sat down for a roundtable discussion with area investment and accelerator organizations, such as Cultivation Capital and Capital Innovators.
Kander said he hopes Missouri entrepreneurs can turn “Fortune 500 ideas into Fortune 500 companies,” the journal reported. The key is cash investments, according to one of the city’s startup organizers.
“Really what we need is more money,” said Kevin Farrell, senior director for economic and housing development at the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis. “There’s a growing need to feed these startups with more capital. We need more venture capital here alongside support from the state.”
