Jason Kander announced yesterday his exit from the Kansas City mayoral race.
In a letter posted online, Kander said he was done “trying to outrun depression and PTSD symptoms” gained 11 years ago during a four-month tour to the Middle East.
“I’m done hiding this from myself and from the world,” Kander said. “When I wrote in my book that I was lucky to not have PTSD, I was just trying to convince myself. And I wasn’t sharing the full picture. I still have nightmares. I am depressed.”
Formerly Missouri's secretary of state, Kander in 2016 lost in a U.S. Senate bid against Roy Blunt.
