Kalamazoo shooter's lawsuit against Uber likely a hoax

Posted online
Media outlets reported this week that Jason Dalton, who's accused of murdering six people and wounding two in a shooting rampage while driving for Uber in Kalamazoo, Mich., filed suit against the company.

However, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Paul Matyas says the suit was a hoax.

Matyas told CNNMoney on Thursday he's "1,000 percent sure" the complaint was a hoax and didn't come from Dalton.

The sheriff said he became suspicious about the lawsuit Wednesday evening when he noticed it had a Philadelphia postmark.

"Our Michigan mail doesn't go to Philadelphia first," he said, adding that postal markings on the envelope were different than the ones used by the Kalamazoo jail.

He added Dalton is able to write letters from jail, but all such mail that leaves the jail is logged.
