The grant will fund construction of an electromagnetic device fabrication laboratory, one of a limited number in the country.
“Bank of America recognizes the importance and role of applied and basic research in economic development,” said MSU Vice President for Research and Economic Development Jim Baker in a news release. “We are very grateful for Bank of America’s support. This is the lead gift that will hopefully stimulate other companies to invest in the research enterprise of JVIC.”
JVIC houses MSU’s Center for Applied Science and Engineering and Center for Biological and Life Sciences, nonprofit arm Springfield Innovation Inc. and senior corporate affiliates.
JVIC officials also announced today that, in conjunction with corporate affiliate Nantero, the center has received $6 million in federal funding for the development of carbon nanotube-based radiation hard nonvolatile random access memory.
In other JVIC news, corporate affiliate St. Louis-based Crosslink has committed to building out the center’s third floor at a cost of about $650,000, according to the release.
