Justice Department sues to break up Ticketmaster parent company

The Justice Department has filed suit in an effort to break up Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster.

Thirty states joined in the lawsuit that alleges antitrust violations.

"We allege that Live Nation relies on unlawful, anticompetitive conduct to exercise its monopolistic control over the live events industry in the United States at the cost of fans, artists, smaller promoters and venue operators," Attorney General Merrick Garland said.

Live Nation officials said the DOJ's allegations of a monopoly are "absurd."
