Justice Department sues to block JetBlue, Spirit deal

The Justice Department filed suit to block JetBlue's proposed $3.8 billion acquisition of Spirit Airlines.

“If not blocked, the merger of JetBlue and Spirit would result in higher fares and fewer choices for tens of millions of travelers across the country. The Justice Department is suing to prevent that from happening," Attorney General Merrick Garland said.

It's the first time in more than 20 years than the government has sought to block a U.S. airline merger.
