Just returned from Cuban trip, McCaskill calls for lifting trade embargo

Posted online
Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., is calling for an end to the trade embargo on Cuba, a move expected to meet with heavy resistance from Republicans on Capitol Hill.

The senator is one of the first to visit the country since the Obama administration in November called for normalizing relations, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

“Lifting the embargo won’t just be a boon for Missouri jobs — it’ll also strip the Castro regime of its biggest excuse for why its people aren’t free and prosperous,” McCaskill said. “Ending the embargo and normalizing relations will be a complicated process, but it’s one I’m confident is worth doing — for Missouri’s farmers and ranchers, and for the Cuban people.”
