Jury awards woman $4.6M in Target lawsuit

A jury awarded a South Carolina woman more than $4.6 million for an injury incurred in a Target parking lot from a needle.

In May 2014, Carla Garrison swatted a needle out of her then 8-year-old daughter's hand after the child picked it up in the parking lot. The needle stuck in Garrison's right palm, according to court documents. Garrison has been tested for HIV and hepatitis, but results have been negative.

Garrison’s lawyer offered to settle with the retailer for $12,000 before the trial, but Target refused.
