Jury awards largest medical malpractice verdict in KC history

A jury awarded the largest medical malpractice verdict in Kansas City history late last month.

Kansas City-based Cullan & Cullan represented Kylie Harris and her mother, Rachel Harris, and won a $25.4 million verdict.

The lawsuit alleged a student doctor at Truman Medical Center-Lakewood, now known as University Health Lakewood Medical Center, administered a medication called Pitocin that is used to accelerate labor. According to the lawsuit, the drug caused an overdose that led to a loss of oxygen in the baby's brain and resulted in cerebral palsy.
