U.S District Court Judge Trevor N. McFadden ruled on Tuesday that the White House must restore The Associated Press' access to President Donald Trump's news events.
The Associated Press had been banned from news events due to its use of the Gulf of Mexico, rather than the Gulf of America, Trump's preferred name for it.
"[T]he court simply holds that under the First Amendment, if the government opens its doors to some journalists — be it to the Oval Office, the East Room or elsewhere — it cannot then shut those doors to other journalists because of those viewpoints," McFadden wrote in his decision. "The Constitution requires no less."
