Judge orders Facebook VP to be released from jail

Posted online
A Brazilian judge ordered the release of a Facebook executive, a day after he was arrested as part of a dispute involving WhatsApp.

Diego Dzodan, Facebook's vice president for Latin America, was arrested and kept in jail overnight after being questioned by police in Sao Paulo.

The dispute involved a court order for Facebook to provide data from WhatsApp, a messaging app it owns, in connection with a criminal investigation into drug trafficking.

Judge Ruy Pinheiro of Sergipe overturned the arrest warrant, saying Dzodan could not be arrested because he is not being investigated in the case.
