John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts announced July 23 the creation of a fund to aid Convoy of Hope’s efforts.
Dubbed JQH’s Legacy of Giving, the initiative calls on the hospitality company’s over 6,500 employees in 24 states to donate money and time to help fight poverty.
“The main thing is to make sure that children don’t go hungry,” Convoy of Hope co-founder Dave Donaldson said during a news conference at JQH’s University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center. “Together, we’re going to make heaven on earth for a lot of children.”
JQH CEO Jacquie Dowdy said the program continues fundraising work the company has conducted for Convoy of Hope, including a concert at the Tower Club with musician Jim Brickman and Hands of Hope food-packing sessions. She pointed to late company founder John Q. Hammons’ civic efforts as the catalyst.
“As most of you know, Mr. and Mrs. Hammons were very generous. Not only did they give of their money, but they gave of their time,” Dowdy said. “This program is going to give an opportunity for service in 24 states and make an impact to tackle systemic poverty in the U.S. and globally feed the world’s hungry children.”
JQH’s Legacy of Giving asks employees at the company’s Springfield headquarters and nearly 70 hotels to participate.
