JPMorgan's profits jump

JPMorgan Chase posted net income of $7 billion, a 13 percent increase from $6.2 billion a year earlier.

“We continued to post very solid results against a stable-to-improving global economic backdrop,” JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said in a statement. “The U.S. consumer remains healthy, evidenced in our strong underlying performance in consumer and community banking.”

The company's average core loans rose 8 percent.
