Jordan Valley residency program launching

Posted online

Jordan Valley Community Health Center has matched the first two residents to its Family Medicine Residency Program as part of a partnership with CoxHealth.

Dr. Cole Irwin and Dr. Hannah Newland, who have medical degrees in osteopathic medicine, are the first two residents of the program, according to a news release. The residency is part of a broader initiative with CoxHealth called the Southwest Missouri Consortium for Graduate Medical Education, which officials say establishes the area's first teaching health center.

"Our new residency program is crucial for both the future of Missouri's health care system and the care for the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Dr. Matthew Stinson, Jordan Valley CEO, in the release. “By increasing residency opportunities, we are not only fostering homegrown talent but also ensuring that these physicians remain in our state, contributing to the long-term growth and resilience of our region."

Irwin and Newland are participating in a three-year residency as part of the program. Jordan Valley plans to add three more residents in 2026, four in 2027 and four more in each year after that.

We are so blessed to have Jordan Valley accepted 2 new doctors into their first residency program. Places for final training are so hard to come by. Our nation does not have enough medical doctor training programs medical schools, followed by enough residency programs. This is certainly , a wonderful opportunity for our community.
