Jordan Valley clinic completes Kearney library acquisition

Posted online
Jordan Valley Community Health Center has finalized a $600,000 purchase of the former Kearney Branch Library, 630 W. Kearney. The new location is an addition to two clinics, at 3000 E. Division St., Stes. A, B and C, and 618 N. Benton Ave.

Health center Executive Director Brooks Miller said demolition has begun on the new project.

“The deal closed in mid-October,” Miller said. “Demolition started the following day, and we’re starting the infill process now.”

The new health center location adds 9,670 square feet of available space to a clinic that is in need of more room. Miller said the new facility, which he estimates will cost around $450,000 to remodel, adds some much-needed medical facilities.

“It’ll be used for a primary care clinic, primarily toward families,” he said. “We anticipate 22 exam rooms within the facility, as well as X-ray, laboratory, and waiting and common rooms.”

Springfield-Greene County Library District spokesperson Jeanne Duffey told the Business Journal in October that proceeds from the sale of the building, financed through Commerce Bank of Springfield, will go toward paying down debt on The Library Station at 2535 N. Kansas Expressway.

Miller said the Kearney Branch’s location serves the clinic well.

“The location is great,” he said, “because it’s central to our (focus) of the population on the north side of Springfield.”

The architect on the project is Hood-Rich Inc., and the contractor is Southwest Builders Inc. Miller said they expect to be ready to move into the facility April 1.

Jordan Valley Community Health Center, which opened Jan. 1, 2003, is one of 17 federally qualified clinics in Missouri. That status allows the clinic to provide services to patients who use private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid or a “sliding scale” system to pay for treatment. The clinic gets an annual grant from the Health Resources Service Administration because about one-third of the clinic’s clients are Medicaid patients.

The clinic also serves patients with mental health issues, as well as treating patients with dental problems through its dental clinic on North Benton Ave.
