Joplin’s LaBarge nabs $5.5M Raytheon deal

Posted online
LaBarge Inc. announced Tuesday that it received a $5.5 million contract from Raytheon Co. to continue production on backplane assemblies for the F-22 Raptor.

St. Louis-based LaBarge said that production on the contract will begin at the company’s Joplin facility in January and continue through spring 2007. The company says it expects additional orders.

The F-22 Raptor is a stealth fighter plane developed for the U.S. Air Force by Lockheed Martin. LaBarge has manufactured backplane assemblies for Raytheon’s Space and Airborne Systems in El Segundo, Calif., since 2002.

According to LaBarge, the backplane assemblies built by the company route electronic and fiber optic signals for the mission avionics suite used in the F-22’s common integrated processor. The company describes the processor as the “brains” of the F-22, assisting in reducing the pilot’s workload.

The announcement was made before markets opened on Tuesday. Shares of LaBarge (AMEX: LB) have been trading near a new 52-week low. The company’s stock closed at $10.45 on Monday, compared to a 52-week range of $10.38 to $17.76.[[In-content Ad]]
