The Joplin school district's board put aside $70,000 to invest on a strategic plan consultant.
Marc Maness, who worked at Springfield Public Schools for more than 17 years before becoming a strategic planner, was approved by the board for the contract.
Maness will work on Joplin board priorities to develop a new strategic plan and a communications and marketing initiative.
