Joplin man charged in area fund-raising scam

Posted online
William Bowman of Joplin has been ordered to pay Special Olympics after placing fake collection boxes for the charity at southwest Missouri retailers.

Bowman will make a $500 contribution to Special Olympics, as well as pay $1,000 to Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon’s office to cover legal costs. Nixon filed a civil lawsuit against Bowman in January.

Under the order from Jasper County Circuit Court, Bowman is permanently prohibited from engaging in charitable solicitations or acting as a professional fund-raiser in Missouri without registering with Nixon’s office.[[In-content Ad]]
