Jonesboro leads Natural State in job growth

Jonesboro, Ark., had the most robust job growth among the Natural State’s major metropolitan areas in 2015, and that upward trajectory is expected to continue into this year, according to a report released by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

The northeast Arkansas hub posted a 4.3 percent jump in job growth last year, and it’s estimated the jobs market will increase in 2016 by another 2.3 percent, according to the report. That puts Jonesboro at the top of the list in the state in percentage job growth last year, and the city is projected to come in second this year.

Jonesboro, which has a broad range of employers including those in the agriculture, government and medical industries, also is forecasted to land at 64th in the country in job growth in 2016, the report says.
