Johnson & Johnson told to pay $72M in talcum powder cancer case

Posted online
A St. Louis jury Tuesday reached a verdict in circuit court ordering Johnson & Johnson to pay $72 million in damages to the family of a woman whose death was linked to the company’s products.

Jacqueline Fox, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013, died last year at the age of 62. Her family claimed Fox’s death was a result of using Johnson & Johnson products containing talcum powder.

According to CNNMoney, scientific opinion is divided on the link between talcum powder and increased cancer risk. Because products containing the substance are sold as cosmetics, they aren’t reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration.
