Initial unemployment insurance claims climbed to 197,000 for the week that ended July 25.
That's an increase of 9,000 from the previous week's revised level.
Continuing claims, a measure of insured unemployment, fell to 1.78 million for the week ending July 18. That's a decrease of 7,000 from the prior week.
