The owner of Jin’s Korean Grill opened a downtown coffee shop Dec. 5.
Jay Jung launched Got Good Coffee LLC at 300 Park Central East, the former home of Parlor 88 and Fedora Social House. With signage marked Got Good Coffee By the Jung Bros, the restaurateur co-owns the venture with Matthew Jung, a friend who isn’t related.
Jay Jung said the coffeehouse just off Park Central Square is designed to attract downtown foot traffic, as well as international students from Missouri State University’s nearby Jim D. Morris Center.
“That’s one thing that I really wanted to do … since I was really, really young,” Jung said of starting a coffee shop.
Jung, who opened his 2185 S. Campbell Ave. restaurant about four years ago, said the business partners invested about $80,000 to open the coffee shop. They signed a lease for the 4,200-square-foot space at the end of October with 28 Properties LLC, said Paul Sundy, co-owner of the holding company. Jung declined to disclose terms of the three-year lease.
The Jung “brothers” currently serve as the sole employees of the shop, which sells a variety of coffee, lattes, tea and milk tea, as well as waffles, crepes, cookies and muffins.
Jung said the next step for the business partners is an advertising push - possibly into radio and newspapers - and hiring additional employees.
He said the Park Central East space’s downstairs area - which formerly housed cigar bar Opus Club - would eventually be converted into meeting space.[[In-content Ad]]
