Jim D. Morris donates to Boys & Girls Town

Posted online
Springfield businessman and longtime philanthropist Jim D. Morris has donated $300,000 for child treatment programs at Boys & Girls Town of Missouri.

The funding will support therapeutic recreation programs at Boys & Girls’ Meramec Wilderness Learning Ranch, the organization said in a news release today. The funding also supports service expansion, including intensive treatment for children who exhibit a severe mental illness or persistent mental disorder.

Morris, who owns Morris Oil Co. and several area hotels, is a longtime supporter of troubled children’s needs and Boys & Girls Town of Missouri, according to the release. His personal and corporate support funded a renovation of the social services, education and administrative center, 1212 W. Lombard, in 1999. He also supported construction of the Ozarks Family Resource Center, a 24-hour emergency shelter for children removed from dangerous situations.
