Jefferson County has issued a request for qualifications for a consultant to conduct airport site-selection study services.
The consultant would identify and vet potential sites for a new general aviation regional airport in the county.
The previous local airfield, called the Festus Memorial Airport, was redeveloped into a manufacturing campus for James Hardie Building Products.
