Jefferson City tabbed America's 'Most Beautiful' small town

Posted online

Rand McNally's Best of the Road contest selected Jefferson City as the most beautiful small town in America.

Votes were collected online between July 1 and Sept. 3, and from 30 finalists. Judges selected the top towns – with populations under 150,000 – in six categories.

Judges' remarks about Missouri's capital city noted its charm, "from its proud historical connections to its lovely Capitol and other elegant buildings."

Here are the other category winners:

  • Most Fun: Corning, N.Y.
  • Friendliest: Kewanee, Ill.
  • Most Patriotic: Gallup, N.M.
  • Best for Food: San Mateo, Calif.
  • Best for Geocaching: Helena, Mont.
