Jeff Koons' 'balloon dog' sculpture shattered in accident

Posted online

A blue balloon dog sculpture created by artist Jeff Koons was accidentally shattered at an art show in Miami.

Bel-Air Fine Art was displaying the piece at contemporary art fair Art Wynwood. Officials said the piece, valued at $42,000, was covered by insurance.

"The collector never intended to break the sculpture; in fact she never touched it with her hands," said Cedric Boero, the gallery's district manager who was overseeing the Art Wynwood booth. "It was the opening cocktail, lots of people were on our booth, she gave unintentionally a little kick in the pedestal, which was enough to cause the sculpture to fall down."
