Japan’s SoftBank posts surge in quarterly profits

Japan’s SoftBank on Monday reported it nearly doubled its fiscal second-quarter earnings to $6.2 billion.

Reuters reports the increased results were brought on by higher valuations on high-tech investments.

High-tech bets such as Uber and General Motors are paying off, while a private equity partnership in Saudi Arabia is casting doubts over the firm’s dependence on the country given the unease surrounding it.
