Japan's program to boost senior women in work is a dud

Not a single Japanese company has applied for a government program meant to reward firms for promoting women.

Japan's program offered companies up to $2,500 for hitting targets to train women in senior positions. The Japanese government earmarked around $1 million for the program.

Though 400 firms were expected to apply, it had no takers.

The failure is said to be a blow to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's plan to support Japan's women at work.
