Japanese women lose fight to keep their surnames

Japan's Supreme Court ruled Wednesday married couples must continue to use only one surname.

The decision rejects a lawsuit by five plaintiffs who wanted to make it easier for women to keep their maiden names.

While the ruling doesn't state which spouse should change their surname, the majority of Japanese women take their husband's name.
