Japan enters recession in second quarter

Japan reported Monday that its economy contracted at a real annual rate of 1.6 percent July through September, in a second straight quarterly decline that returned the country to recession.

According to The Associated Press, a big drop in residential investment offset a modest recovery in exports.

The third-largest economy in the world, Japan's growth figure was much lower than forecast.
