Project description: City Utilities of Springfield is adding to its cooling tower, which cools lake water after the water is used to cool down electricity generators. The generators increase the water’s temperature by 5 F; the cooling tower brings it back down to lake temperature. Lonnie Killingsworth, power station manager, said construction started Jan. 20. The James River Power Station has been operational since 1957.
