James River Grill up for auction

Posted online
The James River Grill property is up for auction at noon tomorrow. The 6,150-square-foot, 175-seat restaurant at 1155 E. Battlefield was originally built as Trotter’s Bar-B-Que and since 1997 operated as James River Grill.

Restaurant and property owner Bill Dreiling closed the restaurant in mid-July citing traffic and competitive issues. Seven restaurants have opened within a few blocks of the location in the last year and another is under construction. The property is on the northwest corner of National and Battlefield, one of Springfield’s busier intersections.

Billy Long Auctioneers is handling the auction, which includes all furniture, fixtures and equipment. There is no minimum or reserve price, but terms require $100,000 down at the auction, with the balance to be paid in cash by Oct. 6.

The Greene County Assessor’s Office most recently appraised the property at $841,200.
