A megachurch on Springfield's southwest side and a Christian County school district took home honors during the 29th Salute to Design and Construction awards banquet held last night at Ramada Plaza Hotel & Oasis Convention Center.

Presented by the Springfield Contractors Association, Developer of the Year went to Nixa Public Schools for recent projects such as its multimillion-dollar expansions of the district’s high school and junior high.

The SCA recognized seven organizations as the Project Team of the Year for the design and construction of the 108,000-square-foot James River Assembly West Campus:
  • architect Buxton Kubik Dodd Creative;
  • general contractor JE Dunn Construction Co.;
  • interior designer Touche Design Group;
  • civil engineer Anderson Engineering Inc.;
  • structural engineer Miller Engineering PC; and *mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer Smith-Goth Engineers Inc.
"What we really wanted was a team that listened to what we said, but built what we wanted," James River Chief Operations Officer Kert Parsley said. "We got that team."

The American Institute of Architects recognized Mike Cummings of Killian Construction Co. as Superintendent of the Year for his efforts leading the $11 million expansion and remodeling of Springfield Catholic High School. Adrian Rhoads of Rhoads Construction LLC was recognized as Craftsman of the Year for his handcrafted sliding doors installed at the Schweitzer United Methodist Church Outreach Center.

Also, the Southwest Missouri Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction recognized Bonnie Crawford with its Rosebud Award, for less than 10 years in construction, and the Vesta Award went to Butler, Rosenbury & Partners Inc. architect Gerri Kielhofner for more than 10 years in the business.

With about 370 industry members, attendance was up 32 percent during the annual event, which also honored the 2013 Salute photo contest winners and awarded numerous area college students with scholarships.
