Jackson County has installed a six-month moratorium on data center applications.
Jackson County Legislature member Sean Smith said there's currently nothing in county code about safety regulations or how close data centers can be to homes.
“It’s intended to both protect people who are worried about certain things, like safety and the environment, and it’s intended to protect those who might be investing because if you invest and you don’t know the rules that you’re investing in, that’s not good either. So it’s intended to be beneficial for all sides," Smith said, according to KCTV.
