Italy rejects European Commission budget demands

Italy is eschewing commands by the European Commission to curb spending.

Finance Minister Giovanni Tria said the country would stick to its deficit target of 2.4 percent and growth forecast of 1.5 percent.

Worried about the impact of high spending against high levels of debt, the European Commission has warned Italy to revise its budget or face possible fines.
