Italy became the first European country to make a COVID-19 certificate mandatory for all workers.
Starting in mid-October, Italian workers who fail to present a valid certificate would face suspension and could have their pay stopped after five days.
The document will be required to show whether a person has been vaccinated, recovered recently from the virus or tested negative for COVID-19.
