Islamic State claims responsibility for Istanbul attack

The Islamic State yesterday claimed responsibility for a New Year's Day shooting at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey.

The attack left at least 39 people dead.

Turkish authorities are continuing searches for the gunman, who killed a police officer guarding the Reina nightclub before going on a shooting rampage with a rapid-fire rifle. Eight suspects have reportedly been detained in connection with the attack. A photo of the suspected shooter has been released by authorities.
