Is Cap'n Crunch staring straight into your child's soul?

9.67 degrees. That’s all the tilt it takes to convince your children they can’t be happy with any other cereal except the one they chose. The one whose mascot is making eye contact with them.
 
According to Bloomberg Businessweek, researchers at Cornell University determined that cereals marketed to kids are deliberately stocked on lower shelves – at kid height – and have characters with eyes drawn so that they seem to be looking right at your children. That translates into a downward gaze of exactly 9.67 degrees. Apparently, this instills feelings of trust and bonding between the child and, say, the Trix rabbit.
 
Researchers suggest Cap’n Crunch is even more hypnotic. His eyes are drawn in a way that they seem to make contact with children as they walk down the cereal aisle, to draw kids to his box.
