The interstate was closed as part of the Missouri Department of Transportation’s $25 million interchange reconstruction project so that contractors could demolish the northbound U.S. 65 bridge, dig bridge footings in the I-44 median to support the new U.S. 65 bridge and perform work on the underside of the new northbound U.S. 65-to-westbound I-44 flyover ramp.
The prime contractor, Emery Sapp and Sons Inc., had planned to have the interstate closed until 4:30 a.m. July 9, but the company completed the work early.
The entire construction project is scheduled to be complete by May 2008, but the company will receive a bonus if work is complete by Dec. 1 of this year.
