Springfield-area businesses have an opportunity to get the lowdown on international trade during a seminar series beginning Feb. 5.
"Basics of International Trade" is a four-part series sponsored by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Southwest Area Manufacturers Association, Greater Ozarks International Trade Association and the Small Business & Technology Development Center at Missouri State University.
The first seminar offers tips on whether local businesses are ready to export, featuring local small businesses - including Hutchens Industries, Allen Filters and Tuthill Vacuum & Blower Systems - sharing their experiences and lessons they've learned in the export business. Organizers say 95 percent of the world's consumers live outside of the U.S.
Remaining sessions, running through early April, will cover a variety of topics, from the basics of making international transactions to financing and payment methods to special requirements and logistics concerns for importing goods from other countries.
Registration for each seminar is $50 for chamber members and $75 for nonmembers; discounted rates are available when registering for all four sessions.
