Instagram Direct takes photo sharing private

Instant messaging is coming back from the dustbins of techno-history.
 
According to a report in the New York Times, photo-sharing service Instagram has joined Snapchat, Kik, Viber and other services in efforts to capitalize on the resurging popularity of private messaging.
 
Instagram Direct will allow users to share messages, photos and videos only with those they choose, instead of blasting the information out to every one of the user’s friends and followers. The trend follows a shift in social media behavior from widespread sharing to one-on-one interaction, according to the report.
