Insecticide-misting company to open in Springfield

Dallas-based MosquitoNix is spreading into Springfield in hopes of stopping the spread of pesky outdoor insects.

The company is working to line up a Springfield franchisee to open a location next summer, as part of its strategy to add more than 100 locations across the country in the next three years. While MosquitoNix previously focused on the southeast and East Coast, the company is recognizing a growing need for its services in the Midwest.

The company installs misting systems at homes and businesses to control mosquitoes and other outdoor insects. The systems are automated, and the chemical is safe and nonresidual, according to Franchise Development Director Josh Johnston. The average cost to install a system is between $2,700 and $3,100, plus chemical refills.

Businesses such as restaurants with outdoor seating, golf courses and driving ranges, parks and tennis courts make up about 30 percent of MosquitoNix clients, Johnston said, and homeowners make up the remaining 70 percent.

“With all the money people put into patios and custom kitchens outside, this is kind of the exclamation point, where people can go out and enjoy their yards all day and night,” Johnston said.

The Springfield location would encompass warehouse and office space and employ between eight and 15 workers by its second year, according to Johnston. The startup cost, including a franchise fee, is between $125,000 and $150,000.[[In-content Ad]]
