Indian Point receives $500,000 state grant

Posted online
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $500,140 grant for wastewater system improvements to the village of Indian Point in Stone County.

Indian Point will use the funds to build a wastewater collection and treatment system, according to a DNR news release.

Village residents currently rely on septic systems, 58 of which will be eliminated with the new wastewater system. The system also will negate a small package plant and one nonpermitted lagoon.

The grant is part of a $50 million bond sale in November 2007 that funded Gov. Matt Blunt’s Clean Water Initiative for statewide water and wastewater improvements. The funds will be used in conjunction with loan funds from DNR’s State Revolving Fund. The Indian Point project will cost an estimated $1.4 million and is expected to be completed in March 2009.

The Indian Point grant was the second-highest amount awarded by DNR for wastewater system improvements in the past week.

The largest grant – for $670,185 – was distributed to Washington County in eastern Missouri to build a wastewater collection and treatment system in the Holiday Shore area.[[In-content Ad]]
