Indian automaker outsources to Detroit

A major Indian company is outsourcing key automotive engineering work to the U.S. - even though it does not sell vehicles here.

Mahindra & Mahindra found there was insufficent talent in India when it sought to expand its global vehicle development capabilities. It decided on Detroit as the epicenter for automotive development and testing, according to USA Today.

The Mumbai-based automaker could start selling SUVs and pickups in the U.S., though past attempts to do so did not come to fruition.
