India to give free WiFi to 1,000+ villages

The Indian government is stepping up its efforts to get hundreds of millions of its citizens online.

Under a new pilot project called Digital Village, the country will supply free WiFi to 1,050 villages.

During the next six months, government workers will install WiFi hotspots on special towers that villagers can use to get online via their cellphones.
